Women in Musicals | ACE 1000
When listening Hamilton, I learned about a lot of things that I normally wouldn’t have even bothered looking into. One such thing was portrayal of women. I will be going over certain scenes from the play Hamilton and talk about how musicals portrayed women.
When we first meet “The Schuyler Sisters”, they are shown as super progressive women who are tired of people doubting their abilities. The sisters wanted to be treated equally
In “Satisfied”, Elizabeth is shown to be very strong as in she is okay with making big sacrifices for the greater good. She was ready to sacrifice her love for Alexander because she loved him and Angelica. This also shows how women were shown to be very large hearted and sacrificing.
In “Burn”, we see Elizabeth show her grief while hiding it from the entire world. This shows how society believed that women kept things in and didn't complain no matter how much they were wronged.
